  1. Do it right says:

On your A/C unit there should be a label,
look on it for ____ F.L.A. (Full Load Amps).
If it’s less than 50, you should be OK, but you also need to factor in the amperage draw of the inside air handler. That should have a label on it as well.

  2. Stan says:

What size generator will run central A/C unit?
Will a 10000 watt 50amp generator run my 2.5 ton central air unit with nothing else on?
This unit is a package unit all outside.

The Duromax appears to be a Chinese built generator. I’d be very weary about getting one. The low price has a reason. Consider spending a bit more money to get better quality and reliability. Honda is very good but also very expensive. You can get a Briggs and Stratton generator for a reasonable price. Check your local classified ads, CraigsList, and Kijiji for used systems.

You also need to know whether you wish to produce DC or AC and at what voltage. AC can be transformed to different higher or lower voltages. DC can be stored in batteries (similar to car batteries at 12 volts). If the end use is heating, either AC or DC can be used. If the end use is lighting, the voltage must be consistent with the rating of the bulbs. You must also use fuses or breakers depending upon the intended circuits and loads. If you produce AC, the frequency (Hz or cycles per second) must be consistent with the requirements of sensitive loads.

Fatty, if you don’t even know how to set the clock on your car stereo, you shouldn’t be posting in the car audio section. We don’t post in the geriatric section.

Now, it isn’t possible to run 4-5,000 watts of amplification in a car without adding a 200-240 amp alternator, plus a voltage regulator, plus a battery isolator, plus a battery for each bass amp, plus lots of 0 guage wire. You’re looking at around $2,000-2,500 US for just that, not including any speakers or amplifiers.

Kicker makes the best competition car audio subs these days. MTX and JL audio also make very good subs. For amps, I’d go with Kicker or HiFonics, though there are MANY good amps on the market today. Just find the ones that have the features and power you need.

    What kind of alternator?
I am building a generator with a 18hp Briggs an stratton engine but I need an alternator. I want to get as many watts out of this as I can. The 8000 or 10000 watt portable generators that you can buy at lower or sears use a 15hp Briggs engine so I no I can produce the same with mine. What I need to no is what kind of alternator is on the portable one and were I can buy one. Also how many amps does the alternator need to be and is there anything else I can use to produce this amount of watts.

I want to buy a car stereo to be very loud (drum n bass and trance is the music i like)but i dont want to add a generator in the engine or something like that.So i want a split (fr)and two 6*9 (rear)as speakers and 2 spl subs plus 2-3 amps.If the total watts are 4k-5k
what else should i need? What brand is the best?-there are like 10000.George Greece

    WATTS =18x 746(EFFx.65) =8728.2
You can use the 8000 watt portable generator and use on your Brigggs and Stratton engine. The wattage obtained from the calculation above may be lower if your engine efficiency is lower than 0.65

  9. Nicki says:

Does anyone have experience with portable generators? I was looking at the DuroMax 10000 XP?
I want to run most of my home, this is an 8000 watt with a 10000 surge. I want something a woman can run and maintain with the least concerns.
Yes, I did have an electrician come to see what I would need for size as I need furnace, grinder pump, fridge and some lights. Just trying to pick a good machine. Elec will istall a transfer panel for 8 circuits.
