Want to build an electric generator?  The ability to create your own power at home is very important for a few reasons.  The first is that if you are able to create your own power you reduce your reliance on electric companies and you can drastically reduce how much you spend on power each month.  For many people this alone is enough to send them searching for a way to make their own free power at home.  Beyond just saving money, another equally important advantage of making green power at home is that you can reduce the amount of pollution you create personally and do your bit to help save the planet.  Magnetic power generators offer the best of both worlds by allowing you to save money and at the same time help the planet.

    How do i calculate the power of an electric generator?
    I am trying to find a formula to calculate the power of an electric generator, based on are of coils, dimeter of wire (if it matters), rotational speed and so on. I am building one to hook up to a bike and i would like to be able to have a formula to predict voltage given all the parameters.

    If I removed a v8 engine could i convert it to power an electric generator?Would it be enough power to run a house?

    I once was in school and had to learn this it where lessons of 4 hours a week and then for half a year

    I can tell you its alot alot of parameters 50 ~ 100

    forget it.

    Ya it could be made to work. 1HP is 746 watts. So lets say you run your engine at 100HP, you’d have 75kW. A typical house might need 10kW, so you’d be able to power a half dozen houses.

    You’d need a cooling solution if you’re going to run an IC engine at high output in a stationary position.

    The basic principle of a direct-current generator is that of a moving magnet in close proximity to a conductive wire. As the magnet turns, the magnetic field forces free electrons in the wire to move from their atoms. As these electrons “impact” other atoms, other electrons are forced to fly away.

    The movement of the electrons can be likened to water flowing through a garden hose. They cannot flow back against the “pressure”, but continue to move electrons through the wire in one direction until impacted electrons reach the generator’s magnets, completing the circuit. Now, there is an electrical current in the wire as long as the generator continues to turn.

    A simple motor operates in the reverse principle. Incoming electron “pressure” creates a magnetic field around the motor’s rotor. The rotor is designed and assembled so that the rotor is forced (by magnetism) to turn.

    Both the generator and motor are are designed to operate according to the intended use.

    If you’re talking the branch of science, broadly, physics (specifically electromagnetism).

    If you’re asking how an electric generator works, a brief explanation: a rotating magnetic field is created by spinning a magnet (the “rotor”). This creates a constant change in magnetic flux in the coil wrapped around the housing (the “stator”), inducing an electromotive force (ie: a current) due to Faraday’s law of induction. Real-world examples are of course more complicated, but this is the basic theory.
