Why The Best Renewable ...

Best 5 Renewable Energy Innovations

To develop environmental friendly methods in generating power is a brilliant renewable energy innovation from a renewable energy company. Producing renewable energy powered generators for unfaltering energy supply and cut down the cost of energy utilization. Harnessing renewable energy resources for a clean energy supports the environment as well as the future. Here are five of the best renewable energy innovations.

First thing that come in mind when renewable energy is mentioned would be the solar panels. They come in all sizes to fit the needs of every household. When it first came out solar panels are so tiny it can only power a calculator. There are two types of solar panels, first is the solar thermal collector that heats waters for consumption or homes. A solar thermal collector is basically made of an insulator box and a black metal absorber. Natural convection takes place with solar thermal panels and is widely used in sunny European countries to cut down water heating costs. The other is the photovoltaic panel. These are solar panels that are made of wafer based crystalline silicone cells or a thin- film based on cadmium telluride or silicone. It converts light energy, thus the name photovoltaic, into energy by photovoltaic effect. Solar panel reduces carbon emission in the atmosphere promoting cleaner energy.

Second is the windmill. Water as a renewable energy resource has been known to man since the late 600 AD. Windmills are used to grind up produce and draw water up water. Modern wind mills or properly known as wind turbines makes use of the wind to produce electricity. Wind turbines convert kinetic wind energy into mechanical energy then into electricity. There are two types of wind turbines, namely the horizontal axis wind turbine and the vertical axis wind turbine. Between the two, the horizontal axis wind turbine is more common than the other. Everybody can recognize a tall tower with horizontal axis blades are called wind turbines.

Third is a biomass powered generator. Who knew that there's a Do It Yourself version of this contraption. Now left over food and animal litter has more usage other than fertilizers. On a larger scale, Biomass, being the most abundant of all can generate powers providing large farmlands and forests. A renewable energy company that utilizes biomass normally makes use of the biomass steam cycle to generate electricity. Other ways of utilizing biomass is by extracting biomass fuel from decaying materials.

Fourth is making use of tidal power. Tidal steam generators produce incredible amounts of energy due to the high density of water flowing from the ocean. Geographically speaking, this type of renewable energy is only available to countries that have access to the sea or coastal areas.  It is considered as one of the best long term renewable energy resources in the world. Using tidal turbines rather than coals to run heavy machineries can reduce the output of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Last would be nuclear powered generators. Although it is highly debatable, nuclear power is an abundant resource for us to utilize. It can generate power twice as much as fuel and other resources combined. The downside of this would be that there are much health risks involved in putting up a nuclear power plant.

Most people actually doing work in “renewable energy” are doing either electrical or mechanical engineering. It depends where your interests lie.

Electrical engineers work on things like inverter technology… changing out of phase alternators to in-sync SC power, things like power re-generation in car braking, power distribution… etc.

Mechanical engineers design the wind & water turbines (along with fluid/aeronautical engineers), solar following systems, and such.

Chemical engineers are working on more efficient batteries (very very important), more efficient conversion from solar to electricity, high temp fluids for focused solar arrays, fuel cells.. and such.

Megatronics Engineers are both electrical/mechanical and work on the new technology of hybrid electrical/mechanical mechanisms, like solar aiming systems, turbine’s dynamic pitch control… and so on.

As you can see, renewable energy uses a lot of engineering backgrounds, and unless you want to get pigeonholed into one little job, your best bet is to get both electrical & mechanical backgrounds, then study, on your own, the areas that interest you. You won’t really take off in the industry until you get a job and your hands dirty.

Which are the best renewable energy companies in the US?

Which is best for renewable energy minor, Electrical or Mechanical engineering?
I wish to work with renewable energy; for that I searched which career to study in the university. I found that many universities stated that a mayor in renewable energy is not the right choice but instead as a minor with either Electrical or Mechanical engineering. I have read how each mayor does but I can’t still decide.
    Could someone help me please.
P.S. I wish to work on big projects for the generation on energy like the “Andasol Solar Power Station”

Global Green Solutions (OTCB-GGRN) and Valcent (formerly Vertigro) technologies have solutions in the works and should be up and running later in 2009. We will use petroleum, because that is the way we are tooled up, but more eco-friendly!
The solution is to grow algae which can produce either gasoline, kerosene, or diesel fuel. It was discovered that our oil supplies come from ancient algae. There are experiments with the production of algae going on in several places. The problem has been that algae will only grow in the first 1 1/2″ of exposure to sunlight. This can now produce 20,000 gallons per acre (vs 8 at best from corn). Recycling the water.
Aera Energies – a joint venture with Exxon Mobil – Shell, Friday stated that they are going full steam ahead with Greensteam- Which burns biowaste to produce steam for industrial processes and electrical power cogeneration. Being ecofriendly.

what would be the best renewable energy in New York city?
I was thinking of bio-energy but i don’t know if it will work .

Saw a very interesting TV programme about the prototype small turbine water generators (think of a wind turbine in the water) they are building there. They plan to have banks of them which generate guaranteed power all day, except on the turn of the tide (2 x 2hours a day).

Looked a jolly good idea and much better/cheaper/more reliable then wind turbines which on average only generate 15% of the time!

  7. Observer in MD says:

Coop American lists many renewable energy companies in their “Green Pages” (Ref 1).

One that develops wind energy is “Native Energy”:

Another that sells home energy and solar systems is Sierra Solar Systems:
    http://www.sierrasolar.com/

You might want to check the Green Pages listings for something that is local to you or matches the particular kind of renewable energy that you are interested in.

  8. OK says:

What is the best option for renewable energy?
Which option is, or will be, economical and practical?

  9. 안젤라 says:

It depends on where you go. Some schools offer fantastic academic support…but you also want to be exposed to local, state, national, and international people and programs in order to apply your knowledge.

I am going to tell you right now…I am going to sell you my school so be prepared.

I am an Earth and Environmental Engineering major, I have so many opportunities because of where it is–NYC (Columbia U).

We have lots of affiliates so it provides great internships on renewable energy along with sustainable development, water sanitation (my concentration), along with things that go right in hand with energy like economic development, policy, etc.

There is also an INCREDIBLY large outreach to the international community which gives students and opportunity to see how non-US administrations go about tackling energy related issues.

Whats the best college for “go green” and renewable energy?
I really like finding out information on go green and renewable energy. But i don’t know what major, or what college would be best for it.
