Is Troy-Built a better generator than a Coleman?
I want to purchase a 5500 watt generator for my home for the upcomming hurricane season but I want to spend under $1000 for the generator. I was told a Coleman generator does not have good quality and Home Depot is selling the Coleman generators with Briggs & Stratton motor. Lowe’s is selling the Troy-Built generators. I had a chance to buy a Honda powered Coleman generator but was leary of the Coleman generator quality. Can anyone out there with generator knowledge enlighten me on whats good and bad?
Building a generator out of a Microwave?
Hi, I love technology and the idea of how everything works, but when it comes to knowing how all the parts work to make something new, Im totally lost. But I have been workin with this idea on building a generator that can run off its own back emf. And I have this microwave convection oven and I want to be able to salvage any and all parts from it for this project. As I said, Im not very technologically inclined, so I would be more than grateful if any of you could help enlighten me.
the most likely outcome of opening up a microwave oven and turning it on is you will get a near lethal dose of radiation that will cook your corneas and you will probably end up blind if you don’t die. or you will touch something and electrocute yourself. if you want to fool around and learn about neat technology don’t kill yourself by fooling around with a microwave oven. You might get some amateur radio books and read up on what it takes to become a radio amateur and read about the kind of projects they build. nice low power devices that run on 12 volts rather than 1400 watt microwave ovens that are potentially lethal.
Are there plans on the internet anywhere for building a generator set using a car alternator?
When building an electric generator which is the bigger factor in the use of the magnets?
I need to build 2 very basic generators for a IISEF project i have in the works, and i need to know which is more important to consider when looking ate magnets.
1) Is the pull force the most important
or
2) Is the area the magnet covers (and therefor the magnetic field area) more important.
On the net it is about money. This form of generator is old 100 years old. You need an 100amp Alternator, a 12volt car battery, a 1000watt power inverter. Some method of turning the Alternator. Preferably a teenager wanting to play Video Games, hook it to a bike. For 200 to 300 Dollars. You have taken 1 kilowatt per hour off your bill. Plans for this devise can be found under the hood of any car as old as you are. I do not understand the new cars either. All the same parts just put together by engineers worried about keeping there jobs.
can anyone help me with building a biogas generator?
I just want to play around with it Something small. Possibly made out of a 2 liter bottle or something, just to get a hands on idea of how it works. So if anyone knows where I can get some schematics to build a small bio gas generator that would be great, thanks!
I would say they both are important. You’ll see, when you apply more force to the generator, then it’s acceleration will be greater, therefore, the speed of the rotor will be faster and you will get more voltage. Now, the area the magnet covers is important as well because the more magnetic lines strike the wires, the more electricity you get.
Depending on the kind of generator you are using, then the speed of the rotor will have different reactions. For example, if you are using a triphasic generator of synchronisation, your speed will determine the frequency of your phases.
Hope this helps.
Search on ‘home biogas generation’. Tons of stuff out there.
Or buy a cow ☺

Coleman generators don’t have lower quality alternators. The Troy-Bilt Generator is assembled by Briggs and Stratton who also make Craftsman Generators. Colemans 5500 watt unit could be a Chinese built unit. Be careful.
The customer returns on the Colemen generators are much higher compared to Briggs built generators at Home Depot.
Home Depot also sells a 5500 watt Briggs built generator called the Wheel House which is easy to move and has a removable gas tank for easy filling.
Troy-Bilt tillers are manufactured by someone else. It is a “leased” brand name.
Good luck.
