What a Good Set Of DIY WInd Generator Plans Should Have

A good set of plans should throuroughly explain which materials to use. The plans should also give you options and formulas for the size of your windmill generator. The size should be determined by electrical demand and available wind speed. You should know what type of motor to use for your windmill, and why.

  • Materials The materials will vary upon application of the windmill. The shear wind force on your blades will determine what material you make your blades from. If your using PVC pipe for your blades and not reinforcing the blades at the hub, your more than likely going to snap a blade. This isn't a huge deal, unless your windmill is placed in a hard to reach location. Sometimes you'll want to sacrifice a little efficiency for less maintenance. A good set of DIY plans will cover materials.
  • Wind Formula Calculations Your available shear wind speed wil determine the most efficient windmill generator for your applications. A huge windmill that doesn't spin does you absolutely no good. The wind calculations will determine the length of your blades. This isn't complicated but it's good to know for efficiency. Those who are blessed with high winds, may need to include a break, or furl design, to keep from damaging your windmill.
  • Type Of Generator A common misconception is that a car alternator would make a good wind generator. This isn't true. A car generator needs to spin way to fast. Wind generators need motors that produce the most electricity whith the least amount of rotation, and at low speeds. Low RPM high voltage 3 phase motors, are commonly used. A good set of plans will tell you what motor to use for your needs.

DIY wind generator plans are a great alternative to paying high prices for wind generators. The wind turbines can be easily fashioned from readilly available materials, and they generally cost one eight the cost of a commercial wind generator. A good set of plans will spare you the high commercial costs and you'll have a system that you can easily maintain. You won't have to pay maintenance to upkeep your windmill. You'll have first hand knowledge of how your wind generator operates.

Does anyone have experience with resendital wind generators ?( or Diy solar panels)?
Especially something not to noisy and prefferably smallish and mounts on your roof. I am 2stories up.

How do you make a DIY wind turbine + generator?
I mean ones you can make and use at home, little ones.

Can DIY CO2 generators for fish tank produce carbon monoxide?
Can Do-IT-Yourself CO2 generators for fish tank produce carbon monoxide? I recently built one and I got sick and symptoms are similar to CO poisoning. Please help thanx

    No.

They use yeast and sugar to produce CO2.

They are about as dangerous as making bread or brewing beer.

    You probably have the flu.

As so often, it depends what you want to do with it…
It all has to do with efficiency or conversion loss (depends whether you are an optimist or pessimist).
And your location also plays an important role.
Wind turbines are only useful if they are mounted approx. 30 – 50 feet above ground, and there are not many trees and buildings around. And to make it wothwhile, they have to be somewhat bigger than what typical DYI stores sell. This gets you into another problem: In some residential areas, you may actually need a planning permission for it!
If you only want to get “cheap” hot water, then go for heat panels on your roof. Cold water is pumped up, heats up, and is forced back down into a tank with a heat exchanger. The electricity bill for the pump is lower than for the heating element in a conventional water heater.
If you use electric solar panels, use the following rough formula: For every 5 Watt of power, you need about one square foot of panel (at today’s technology). You see, even if you’d cover your entire roof with that stuff, you won’t get enough power to run your entire residence. And try to avoid using things like an inverter (not “inventor”, ha-ha), because it reduces your efficiency, and often doesn’t give a pure sinewave as output, thus screwing-up some of your electronics in the house. Start with running a few lights on 12 Volt DC instead of 110 or 220 Volt AC, or small fridges meant for RVs, and things like that.
In any case, expect your initial investment cost only to amortised after 10 – 15 years! But you feel good……

Check out http://buildurownwindmill.com. There you will find a lot of articles about windmill design. There are also some links from that site that will take you to a site where you can download a step-by-step installation guide with a few video tutorials. I got my guide and am in the process of building mine right now. Good luck!

Several places exist on the net to check this out. Here is one to get your started….milage boost if any depends greatly on the vehicle and its level of technology, higher tech cars get much less if any gain.

I made one for my truck it was pretty simply. I recommend you dont buy from Water4Gas though, not that it doesnt work but it was twice as expensive as where I got it. Check out http://www.gassaverguide.info/hho if youre interested.
