The Difference Between AC And DC Electric Motors.
There are two main types of electric motors. There are direct current or DC and alternating current or AC motors. The reference of DC or AC refers to how the electrical current is transferred through and from the motor. Both types of motors have different functions and uses. Dc motors come in two general types. They can have brushes or be brushless. AC motors, as well, come in two different types. They can be two phase or three phase. The differences in DC and AC motors are sometimes subtle, but these differences are what make one types better for a certain use.
Direct current or DC electric motors work for situations where speed needs to be controlled. DC motors have a stable and continuous current. DC motors were the first and earliest motors used. They were found, however, to not be as good at producing power over long lengths. Electric companies found using DC motors to generate electric did not work because the power was lost as the electric was transmitted. Brush DC motors use rings that conduct the current and form the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Brushless DC motors use a switch to produce the magnetic drive that powers the rotor. Direct current motors are often found in appliances around the home.
Alternating current or AC electric motors are used differently based on what type of AC motor it is. Single phase AC motors are known as general purpose motors. They work well in many different situations. These AC motors work great for systems that are hard to start because they need a lot of power up front. Three phase, also called polyphase, AC motors are usually found in industrial settings. These motors also have high starting power built transmit lower levels of overall power. AC power gets its name from the fact that it alternates in power. The amount of power given off by an AC motor is determined by the amount of power needed to operate the system.DC and AC electric motors are found everywhere from the home to the car to industrial plants. Motors are important to everyday life. Dc motors were introduced and caused a great revolution in the way many things are done. When AC motors came on the market the way motors were looked at changed because of their amazing starting power potential. DC motors and AC motors are different in many ways, but they still both are usede to power the world.

Type of electric motors and place to buy them?
Hello everyone, thanks for the help
I need to build a cargo elevator and i was thinking about electric motors. Therefore i was wondering what kind of electric motors should i buy and where can i get them.
I need a motor that can have a lifting power of at least 35 kg.
Thanks again!
Try the link below but…do forget the max load of the cargo, the cage, load, people load, because 35kg is very little,so depends on what you use it for. YO could also try to contact the closest elevator company maybe they got one on the side that is too small.
I used to work at an elevator company (300 lbs motors) on small elevators.
How are electric generators and electric motors similar?
A. Both motors and generators produce alternating electric current.
B. Many of the parts are similar and both use electromagnetic fields to operate.
C. Both motors and generators use direct current and switches to turn.
D. Many of the parts are similar and both use turbines to make them spin.
Electric motors?
Hello.
I want to build an electric motorcycle by modifying a road bike to use a pair of deep-cycle automotive batteries, or perhaps capacitors or something else entirely. This vehicle is to be built on the cheap, but I want it to have high (40-60 mph top speed) performance, fair acceleration, and good range. I intend to accomplish the latter by regenerative braking, which as I understand it, would be fairly easy to do by reversing the polarity (maybe not the right word) of a DC motor through switches.
Questions-
-Where can I find such a motor? Can I pull one out of junked appliances? If so, which ones?
-What’s the best way to store power? If I do use two batteries, should they be in series or parallel? What about capacitors?
-What’s the best way to regulate power draw?
-How can I be most efficient with the power I gain by regenerative braking?
If possible, please provide links, or, preferably, a circuit diagram. I’m not really happy with the diagram I made.

electric motors?
umm… since electric motors are going to come out onto cars soon, very soon do u think it would be posible to put a electric motor on a car that ran on oil??
I’ll tell you what, I built an electric bike with a Rigid powerdrill, the motors are pretty strong, more torque than anything else on the market (powerdrill wise), and so long as you don’t lug them below 1/2 max RPM for too long (pick your gear ratios wisely) they hold up well.
Electric Motors?
How do I know how long an electric motor has left in its working life and what’re the symptoms which indicate that it’s nearing the end of its life?
Other than bearings, the only parts that wear out are the brushes, and those can often be easily replaced. Symptoms of a wore out motor? A loud hum when the motor is powered up and hesitation in starting, ie. if you turn on an electric fan and it just “hums” till you get the fan turning with a stick.
Motors like starter motors are easy to test as well, if you take them to a shop. Electric moters are VERY simple machines.
It sound like you may be talking about an electric car conversion. This is where a car has its gas engine stripped out and replaced with an electric one.

This process can be accomplished for 5 to 10 thousand dollars, and leaves you with a freeway-capable electric car.

Your new electric vehicle can then be driven around for only a penny or two per mile. Spend another thousand to put a solar panel on your garage for charging, and get your cost per mile down to nearly zero. It’s pretty hard to beat that. More details:
