Electrical Engineering Seminars
Engineering is a very vast field that deals with many subjects through different branches. It is a field that changes every day. New and new inventions and theories are coming each day. The development of mankind leads to many kinds of inventions. Invention of electricity made a huge change in the lifestyle of human beings.
The progress of the mankind can be divided into two sections, i.e. the period before the invention of electricity and period after the invention of electricity. We can witness that the rate of progress of humans is much higher in the period after the invention of electricity. The invention electricity made a new generation.
That much it has contributed to the world. Today we can claim that not only the progress but also the human life in the world is dependent on electricity. Electricity or the stream of charged electrons is the driving force behind the progress of a nation. The study of the electricity, its uses as well as the construction and maintenance of electrical equipments and machines comes under the section of electrical Engineering.
There are a lot of specialization topics in Electrical Engineering. The branch of Electrical Engineering deals with the generation, transmission, maintenance and measurement of Electrical energy and equipments. The progress of a country is dependent on the power sources in the country. It is important to run the power projects in an environment friendly manner. We need to give enough care in preserving the nature. A good Engineer must be committed to the environment. Most of the power sources are perishable and are obtained from nature. It all has to be properly utilized else we need to face a dark age in the near future. It is to be noted that everyone is having the responsibility to the nature
The students of Electrical Engineering need to do dedicated work in the period of their course to understand the real face of electricity. Electricity is a good friend of humans if utilized properly. If not so it can create great hazards. The proper learning of the core subjects is the important part in Engineer. An Engineer need to exile in his field. Electrical engineering is a very vast branch of Engineering. The electronics branch was initially a part of electrical engineering. In the post graduation levels of M.S and M Tech the streams are innumerable.

What are the percentages of the sources of Electrical generation in the USA?
Where do we get our electricity? How is it generated? What is the efficiency of its delivery?
How do you measure power output during electrical generation?
I’m measuring the amount of power produced by different types of electrical generation for my science fair project, and I need a tool to measure it. What should I use?
could distributed electrical generation ever work?
What are the potential advantages, the disadvantages over hub and spokes generation as well.
If we can’t build coal fired electrical generation plants, will our electricity bills increase?
Politicians are refusing to allow utility companies to build coal fired power plants due to the greenhouse gas scare. If they have to build natural gas fired electrical generation plants, won’t the fuel cost double?
Not sure of your term “distributed Electrical generation”.We have distributed electrical generation in New England much of it eminating from the Canadian grid. If hub means a large generating facility and spokes are smaller generating facilities around the hubcertainly that will work. Spokes will start generating power when the hub reaches capacity. Such a proposal will be studied for CT.
Nuclear generates about 17-20% of US electricity.
Most other is from coal.
Efficiency of delivery is dependent somewhat on region and what entity is responsible for maintaining the infrastructure. It’s not all crap, not sure where that came from….
Could distributed electrical generation ever work?
What are the potential advantages, the disadvantages over hub and spokes conventional electrical generation as well.
Absolutely,
Public officials in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas have already denied several utilities permits to build coal fired plants that would generate cheap electricity for consumers.
It’s ironic that these are big gas producing states that will benefit greatly from the expensive increase in natural gas sales.
If natural gas fired power plants are built instead of coal fired plants you can expect your electric bill to more than double regardless od how conservative you plan to be.
Keep in mind that wind energy is more expensive than coal fired electrical plants.
Most utilities, who burn coal (in the USA), have worked hard to install environmental controls to reduce emissions . They meet all the state and EPA regulations.
Consumers better get involved in what their elected officials are doing.
Why does it have to? Nobody in their right mind proposes 100% distributed generation. The cost for local storage would be way too high.
What all reasonable proposals say is that distributed generation increases the efficiency of the network during peak load and allows for a large variety of renewable energy sources to be utilized.
Take for example solar energy in the Southwest of the US. The max. load on the distribution networks with central power generation is AC cooling on the hottest summer days. That is at the same time when solar panels produce max. output. Since the electricity is consumed where it is produced, the load on the power lines and local transformers is decreased. The decreased I^2R losses increase total power generation efficiency by a couple of percent and power outages can be avoided, the equipment is stressed less, increasing total lifetime and decreasing cost.
It’s a win, win, win.
I don’t see any technical disadvantages because distributed generation is 100% compatible with the current system. As far as cost is concerned, the highest estimates I have seen for a solar/wind/biogas etc. energy mix will increase cost/kWh by a few cents or less than 20% for most users. This is absolutely negligible in comparison to any other cost drivers which are at work in the current economy.
You will need at least two wattmeters to measure the power generated by a 3 phase generator. See any textbook for the connection. You can also use three wattmeters in 3 phases to measure the power output. Wattmeter will only indicate the power generated at any instant.
And if you want to measure the energy generated you will need watt-hour meters or energy meters.
