Therefore, it is important for everyone to play a role in saving the environment. You have two main options of using renewable energy for electricity production. You can use the energy from the Sun called the solar energy or the energy from the wind called the wind energy.
There will be some expenditure when you initially set up the necessary equipment like solar energy panels for solar energy or wind energy turbine systems for wind energy. However, you do not spend much money for maintenance as is in the case of electricity cables and wiring for your home. Therefore, in the end, you do save some amount of money.
If you generate excess electricity or more than you need for your home, then, you can sell it to others. In such a case, you may even get back your capital or the amount of money you spent for buying and setting up the necessary renewable energy equipment. Perhaps, you can even make a small side income for you and your family.

Solar, geothermal, wind, etc. all suffer from the fact that you can’t place production facilities wherever you want and haul in fuel. This may result in inefficient transmission and distribution layouts. Much energy is lost overcoming resistance in power lines.
What is the difference between energy sources for generating electricity?
Well first there are three primary ways:
1. Mechanical – Generators
2. Chemical – Batteries, Fuel Cells
3. Photovoltaic – Using Light
Mechanical generators convert spinning motion to electrical power. The spinning can be produced in any number of ways:
Nuclear Steam Plants
Coal Steam plants
Geothermal steam plants
Turbines (Gas or fuel oil)
Hydro
Wind
Each of those has advantages and disadvantages
Nuclear – Advantages: Clean. Disadvantages: Spent fuel dangerous and must be stored forever, expensive to build, Reactors can make fuel for bombs
Coal: Advantages: Coal is the cheapest, most plentiful fuel. Disadvantages – Environmentally damaging to both extract the coal and burn it.
Geothermal steam plants: Advantages: Clean, Cheap. Disadvantages: It’s only an option is a few places on earth where there are active thermal vents – like Iceland
Gas/Fuel Turbines: Advantages: Cheapest and fastest to build. Disadvantages: Most expensive fuel and getting more expensive every day. Burning contributes to greenhouse gas.
Hydro: Advantages: Very clean, renewable, very cheap in the long run: Disadvantages: requires large dams with significant environmental cost. Very expensive to develop.
Wind: Advantages: Clean, Renewable, Cheap to build. Disadvantages: Wind power not consistent, large areas of land are needed, Unsightly.
There are also other exotic methods that right now don’t have viable commercial applicaitons: Solar Thermal, Wave/Tidal, airborne wind turbine among them

Doing a science assignment, need to find the 4 most important features for each energy source. The features will then be compared to find the most efficient energy source for electricity production. Websites or even someone who knows will be helpful! Thanks

Coal: abundant supply, however generally a dirty fuel which produces sulfer dioxides (SOX) and nitrous oxides (NOX) both of which are not good in the atmosphere.
Uranium: Safety (radiation) concerns, can go long periods without refueling, no emissions to the atmosphere, problems with what to do with spent fuel (very radioactive).
Natural Gas: Cleanest burning of all the fossil fuels, more difficult to store and transport than coal or oil.
Solar: Solar panels are still pretty inefficient in converting light energy to electric energy, not very affective in areas that don’t get adequate solar energy i.e. northern/southern latitudes, not very affective during overcast/cloudy days, zero emissions.
