Advantages Of Renewable Energy Sources For Your Home

Author: Taylor Michael

Many of us are getting the message: it's time to make better choices in regards to the way we get, and use, our energy.  We now understand that there are other options and renewable sources of energy.

In higher numbers than ever before people are looking into building their own solar panels and wind turbines...for home use.

The neat thing is that you can too.  Solar power and wind power have advanced to the point where it is now viable for any homeowner to benefit from one, or both of these energy source.

Solar energy is arguably the most recognizable source of energy for home use.  Solar panels have been on roofs in some areas of the country for decades.

And while it is an effective source of renewable energy for many people it isn't their best option.  The reasons for that are:

1. Not every part of the country gets a lot of sunny weather and therefore there will be many days when you aren't generating electricity.

2.  Solar panels won't work at night and no matter how sunny your climate there will be a big part of the day, every day, when you aren't producing electricity.

3. On average one wind turbine will generate about the same amount of electricity as 5 solar panels.  And can work day or night as long as there is wind.

Of course wind energy has it's issues too such as the fact that it needs a fairly big open space.  Though if you mount your turbine on your roof you can overcome that to a large degree.

The bottom line is that there are several renewable sources of energy that you can start utilizing today to save  you money for years to come, all with very little effort on your part.

I think all countries advocate it. Sweden is working towards being oil free within twemty years. Not many countries have the resources to do it, but all could be a bit more ambitious if they had public support, gained through INFORMATION and DEBATE, as opposed to lashings of Jello.

Cletus, you failed to mention jello, are you flagging?

We can replace coal, and other fossil fuels.

We can’t do it without using nuclear right now, at any reasonable cost. The cost you cite may be theoretically possible, but present wind farms can’t match that. One problem is that you need a LOT of excess capacity to cope with no wind some places sometimes.

We can build nuclear power plants that are safe and safe from terrorism. We can dispose of the waste safely, it’s just a political problem to designate a site.

A reasonable plan is to press ahead on all three fronts; nuclear, solar, and wind. The goal would be to run the nuclear plants for one “lifetime” (30-50 years) and then replace them with improved wind and solar as they wear out.

Your idea is good, but we need nuclear to make the transition away from fossil fuels right now.

I am glad you are interested in this question because it is important that we should reduce our reliance on non-renewable resources. Future generations will not thank us for wasting such resources.

Coal and oil are examples of non-renewable energy sources. They are fossil fuels obtained from the ground and were created millions of years ago during a phase in the earth’s development that is over. So as we use these resources less is available for the future. Furthermore burning fossil fuels creates pollution.
Solar panels and wind mills are examples of renewable resources because collecting such energy has little or no impact on its availability for the future.

But it may be worth pointing out that the term “renewable” is confusing. What we really mean is “sustainable”.

Best wishes for a more sustainable future.

im doing a science assignemnt .. errm anyone know alot about renewable energy sytems in townsville?
i have to answer this question for the assignment : Townsville’s very sunny climate has some 171 days a year with 10 or more hours of sunshine yet very few homes and businesses make use of this renewable energy source for producing hot water or electricity. Investigate renewable energy systems that can be introduced. What is the Townsville City Council doing to support and promote such alternatives? Investigate any local examples with the use of renewable energy sources for this purpose? Investigate the short and long term advantages and disadvantages of the promotion of the use of solar generated power.

… i hate science!!! someone help! please!

i also have other questions i had to make up for this assignment.. but if you know anything please tell me and ill tell you the questions to see if you can tell me anything ..

    thnx

Which countries actually advocate the use renewable sources of energy?
Example, countries which have existing laws promoting the use of renewable sources of energy…

Why can’t we replace our coal burning and nuclear power plants with renewable energy sources?
For example we have enough wind power in the United States to replace all of the fossil fuel and nuclear power sources in the United States.

Athough wind does not always blow when you need it, it would seem that in a power grid you will always have wind blowing somewhere to put electricity into the grid.

The cost of wind power at 4 cents per kilowatt hour is competitive with the cost of electricity generated by coal and nuclear energy and less than the cost of generating electricity using natural gas.

What is preventing us from replacing our fossil fuel power plants and our nuclear power plants with electricity from renewable non carbon sources?
