Power is applied to the Tesla coil system by the primary transformer. This voltage, although high, is not nearly enough to jump the spark gap so that it can get to the primary coil. Instead, the only place that it can go is to the capacitors, where it builds up until it is able to jump the gap and run through the primary coil. When the power runs through the primary coil, it sets up a magnetic field inside the coil.

The reason that the output of the secondary is greater than the output of the primary circuit is because the secondary coil has so many more turns than the primary coil. If the primary coil has 10 turns, and the secondary coil has 1000 turns (which is 100x as many), then the voltage flowing in the primary circuit will be multiplied by 100x when it reaches the secondary circuit.
Be careful with the websites, as some tend to have bad information. Although you are right about the output of a Tesla coil being high voltage but a safe current, the primary circuit is a very high current and must be avoided while the coil is on.

Free Electricity – How Can I Profit From It?
I have unlimited free supply of electricity being fed to
the outlets of my apartment at no cost to me.
I receive no bill for electrical consumption.
It is all legitimate.
As times are tough right now I am seeking a way to
profit from this abundant free energy supply if possible.
The home supplies regular AC at 110V or 120V, I suppose,
through a 40 Amp breaker.
Any ideas?

It won’t be free unless you are a subsistence farmer, as you’ll need to purchase food to fuel your body to run the treadmill.
Basically, disconnect all the fancy-schmancy electronics connected to the drive motor. Figure out the voltage of the motor (probably on a label on the motor). Pretend the motor is a generator. Then buy an appropriate ‘DC to AC inverter’ or ‘AC to AC transformer’ to convert the output of the generator to 120VAC, 60 Hz. Should be good to power a TV or laptop.
Don’t connect this to your house wiring, as it could electrocute a linesman if he’s trying to fix the hydro pole down the street, and thinks the power is off. If you really want to live off the grid (or feed back to the grid for profit), you’ll need a special ‘transfer’ switch, and electrical inspection.

set up a store that sells natural gas at uncompetitive low rates.
free electricity- either sell it back to the grid and the electric company will a have pay you for it, or start you’re own grid and let people to buy into it, selling it at again, uncompetitive low rates.
you can also sell this free unlimited electricity in a form of a battery to the DoD, which today American soldier’s most important equipment still runs on unreliable, limited supply batteries.

sell nat. gas to anyone who needs it, do it our of US jurisdiction and unrelated to the US. so if you supply gas to America’s enemy you won’t have problems.

SOMEONE is paying for this electricity. If your rent includes utilities, and you did somehow use the electricity commercially, you’d be stealing from your landlord
- How? By saying “Turn of the lights, or I turn off your cell phone (take away your video console/take your car keys/kill your allowance” Why the father (or mother) wants the lights off is irrelevant to the fact that he want the lights turned off. It’s simply a discipline problem.
