while developing tidal turbines which wil be installed in the coastal areas for generation of electricity can we also join them rotor blades which wil be above water and develop electricity from fast moving streams of air? this will increase the outputof plant doubly!
electric generator from old motor?
i have an old barn fan and motor on a metal frame sitting outside. every time i see it it is rotating in the slight wind at a fairly hefty speed. since generators are the same hardware as electric motors could i just hook a fan belt back up and get power from the motor? i understand that there is a lot of resistance in the motor but that aside, i think i heard of something in the motor that prevents this (electricity generation) from happening so that the fan doesn’t send electricity back into the circuit when its windy. is this true? if so, what’s it called, where’s it located and how do i remove/bypass it? Has anyone ever done this? Any tips?(especially for increasing the efficiency)

Wind generation infrastructure will reduce the amount of oil used to generate electricity and the carbon emission. And since we all agree that it is a supply and demand thing the supply will increase over time thereby drive down the price of oil or at least keep it steady depending on how much of our domestic electric production we can shift to from oil fuel generation. There is no limit to the amount of wind generated electricity we can produce since wind is 24/7 in some places unlike solar and is a fraction of the cost to build and maintain. New materials technology is also making it more feasible for wind generation to compete with oil generated electricity.
Yeah yeah I know there are people that say it can be done but we all know the world is not flat.
Private industry needs good leadership. If we are going to leave everything to private industry then why bother to have NIH to research health why not just let the pharmaceutical companies do it? If leave it up to the oil companies that get their oil free from government land when do you think they will actually get around to doing anything?

Oil has been referred to as the engine of the developing world.It is consumed by more than 10 million people and is a natural resource that is obtained from the earth.It is used in automobiles, domestic applications, and is definitely the blood of the modern civilization.Since it’s significance holds so much value, there is an exigency facing the shortage of oil.
It is very important to understand that due to continuous usage, oil wells will one day run dry devoid of any of it left.Hence measures need to be taken in order to avoid or delay this unfavorable happening.In my understanding an average person should begin right from his/her household.Even at domestic level huge quantities of oil wastage is common.Individuals like ourselves should start conserving this precious resource by making minimum use of it and not exploiting it.I would begin by not making use of my car for short distances and making use of it for only long distances, switching off my engine while stopping at a red traffic signal.This would not only save unnecessary oil wastage but would also benefit the environment.
Another alternative would be to utilize solar powered devices, that obtain their energy from solar powered panels and other unconventional sources of energy like tidal power, or electricity generation harnessed from wind energy in place of kerosene operated generators.Even today at an underground location, nuclear fusion is being understood as a means for unlimited amount of energy.
An innovative idea would be to create an alternative fuel in place of oil that would does not harm the environment and at the same time is a replacement for oil.Water is a precious resource, and using water as a potential source of energy is widely discussed.Making water run our automobiles is another great solution since it has already been developed and popularly known as the hydra car.
Thus I would like to reiterate that by utilizing alternative sources like solar power,tidal power,wind energy,alternative fuel,water and the most important to have the will to use minimal amounts of oil as possible can be a solution or least a means to conserve oil much longer for our future generations to come.

But if you are thinking of applying for such a patent, pl. consider whether it is practicable, since the energy required for keeping an aeroplane flying is much more than the energy that can be generated from the wind turbine installed in such a plane. So, the invention is not practical.

While the idea is good, think of the directions of the turbine blade rotation. For wave power, I feel the rotation is through a pelton wheel like arrangement and the direction will be parallel to the waves. For wind power turbine, the direction of the rotation of blades will be perpendicular to the wind direction. So, the same turbine may not be useful.

Like Irv said, it has to be a permanent magnet type motor with brushes. Squirrel cage AC motors on fans won’t generate anything at all.
I will support anything that can compete cost-wise with oil, without lavish government subsidies. But do you realize how much of our nation’s acreage would be needed just to power one of our major cities?!? Its not exactly feasible.
And before anybody starts ranting about tax breaks for oil companies, first do a little research and realize that those same breaks are available to ALL companies, not just oil.
The market is the only mechanism that can determine the most effective use of our world’s scarce resources. Period.
