What is a windmill?
A windmill is device that changes wind energy into mechanical energy which is soon changed into electrical energy. A wind mill usually contains of the following parts:a¢ The blades - A wind turbine can use any number of blades from 3 to 20. Some special wind generators have more blades.
a¢ The tower - The tower raises the spinning blades way up up off the ground so that the winds rotate them.
a¢ The shaft - The shaft is responsible for connecting the blades with the tower and for the balanced rotation of blades.
a¢ The generator - The generator is what creates electricity from the mechanical energy. It also contains power for future use.
a¢ The base: The base of the wind turbine anchors the assembly to the ground.
What issues affect wind turbine design?
There are many issues that affect the design of a wind turbine. Let's look at the major ones:
a¢ Wind speed: The wind speed can be precisely measured with the use of an anemometer. It is not possible| to select the right kind of wind turbine without understanding the correct wind speed.
a¢ Wind direction: For creating a wind turbine, it is also useful to know the direction that the wind gusts most of the time.
a¢ Change in wind speed: Apart from the constant speed of wind, it is useful that you calculate how the wind changes its speed.
a¢ Change of wind direction: The direction of wind will not be consistent, so it necessary to note the way it alternates its direction.
a¢ Obstructions on the site: It is advised to install a wind turbine at a location without many obstacles. Be aware of existing and potential obstacles that may affect the capabilites of your wind turbine.
a¢ Wind turbulence: The movement of wind is not always predictable. However, it is a good idea to know the pattern of wind turbulence in your property.
a¢ Distance of wind activity from the ground: The height of the tower is dependent on the height at which the wind is active.
What are the best designs of windmills?
Aerodynamics determines the features of a windmill based on the factors mentioned in the section above. The designs of wind turbines vary in the following ways:
a¢ Number of blades
a¢ Shape of the blades
a¢ Tower height
a¢ Kind of generators
a¢ Distance of the installation spot from the ground
a¢ Distance between the tower and the generator

Sorry, I call BS!
Assuming his bill has a $20 or so base charge and $0.10/kWh, his claimed reduction would be on the order of 3,500 kWh/month, or 42,000 kWh/year.
At 8,760 hours per year, this would require a 4.8 kW wind generator operating 100% of the time. Good commercial wind sites only operate roughly 30% of the time, which would require a 160 kW generator to produce that much energy. Google Altamont Pass and look at the pictures. Those are 600 kW machines.
The picture of the generator on the site referenced is probably 600W max (0.6kW) and unless you live in a REALLY windy area (IE, they have already built commercial wind turbines near your house) you will be lucky to see a 10% capacity factor, which means you would be lucky to generate about 525 kWh/year, saving you maybe $52/year, way, way less than he is claiming per month.
Build one if you want to play around, but don’t do it figuring you’re going to see this kind of reduction in your bill.
Building a Home made Windmill?
Is building a home made windmill worth it?
where can i get a mini windmill that pumps water?
or are there small pumps available that i can attach to a home made garden windmill.
i want to use it for our garden pond as a water feature instead of using an electric pump.
There is someone in the Gladstone QLD area that make and sell working model windmills, they use a manual diaframe fuel pump operated by a crank, they look good.
Sorry I don’t have a contact number, as I saw them at a market.
Cheers
for power, pumping water, grinding grain, decoration?
Small windmills doing work are as close to solid disks as possible with slanted flat blades, some method of pivoting the head to face the wind, some method of releasing that pivot when the wind gets too strong, and gearing to change the direction of the rotary power and get it down off the tower.

Can I buy my own personal windmill for my house?
Something made to power just one home. . .
Do any of you happen to know who makes one if personal ones are even made and where to get it?
I would love to install a wind turbine for my home, but a lot of factors prevent me from doing so. You have to consider:
1) The initial start-up cost. (it will take a few years to recoup the cost).
2) How much wind your area receives.
3) How much land you have.
4) If your neighborhood restricts them. (this may fall under a height restriction for things you install).
5) State and city regulations.
If you find a company that makes one you’re interested in buying, they should be able to help you determine whether or not it will work for you.
is there any good site to teach the basic construction of wind mill ?
i want to build a small home made windmill ? tell me any good site to learn abt that ?
How to build a home made windmill for pumping water?
I really wanna know how to make one of these. If anyone knows how to or knows where I can buy a kit please let me know. Thank you!
