How do you make a homemade generator for a wind turbine?
Is it possible to construct a $100 wind turbine and from it obtain the equivalant of one gallon gasoline?
I was discussing with an adversary of mine the possibility of this. I think it is possible over a period of time for a small wind generator to produce the same amount of energy that a gallon of gas will produce.
I saw a homemade wind turbine done with 50 gallon drums on Youtube. It was very practical and easy to build. My question is. What is the length of time that it would take to generate the same amount of energy from a gallon of gasoline?
There are many ways to (potentially) build an electricity generating turbine for $100 or less.
Comparing the energy derived from the turbine to the energy derived from a gallon of gas would depend on the efficiency of the engine burning the gas. Since no engine is 100% efficient, only a small portion of the gasoline’s potential energy would be turned into work/force or electricity, while the rest would be lost as heat.
Do I need a charge controller or not? I’m confused. Again.?
Hello, I’m in the process of building a homemade wind turbine and I’m trying to figure out if I need a charge controller or not. Some places say I do and others say I don’t. The turbine has 2 treadmill motors that will be used as generators. Each individual motor is rated at 260VDC, 5A and 5100RPM. I have the turbine geared to a 4:1 ratio. Turning the motors 4 times faster than the blades. Rotor diameter is around 10.5 feet. At this time my battery bank is only rated at 95Ah at 12VDC I will be adding to this battery bank in the near future. My next upgrade will take the battery bank to around 380Ah capacity. I’m only running my small workshop off this so far. I’d like to include some of my house in time but that will be down the road a ways yet. I hope that’s enough info for my question. If not just let me know and I’ll get the anything more than is needed. Thanks for your time and help.

i have a 12 volt solar panel charging system and would like to attempt to make a wind generator from available parts, need some advice?????

2. You will need a rectifier to convert the ac from the alternator to dc for the battery. It would help to have a voltage regulator to limit how much charge the battery receives.
question about “Homemade Alternator”?
I would like to know:
1. How to set up the magnet wires(enameled copper wire) inside a homemade alternator… (where to get the positive and the negative poles from a series of copper wires)
2. How can I transfer electricity from alternator to a battery? (do i need to convert the output from the alternator? or just directly link it to the battery?)
please answer separately.. i can easily get confused ^^…

I’ve designed a charge controller for my wind system. It uses a bank of 1 ohm 225 watt resistors. The voltage applied to each resistor is controlled by a 2N3055 transistor. In this manner dump load current is controlled, creating a higher load when the generator voltage attempts to exceed the preset maximum. At lower voltages the transistors are turned off entirely.
