Now you can save your electricity bills in a very convenient way. This can be possible with the help of homemade electric generator, it can reduce your electric bill in a drastic way. If you are thinking that this electric generator will be very expensive, then you are absolutely wrong! You can build homemade electric generator with a very low investment.

Now you must be thinking how to construct this electric generator at home? Well you don't need to worry at all as you can get the full instructions for making it on various websites on the internet. All you have to do is search a bit.

Firstly you have to plan all the things which you need to buy to construct this generator. A proper plan means you have to list all the products which you need to buy. Products include batteries, blades, bolts, nuts, core to fix the blades, turbine and many more.

Then you have to search for the source where you can get all the products. The source can be the local hardware shops also. The best option will be to go for the local hardware stores only, as here you can negotiate on the rates. Here you will get a huge variety of products as well.

Now once you have the product list and the information of the hardware store, what you have to do is fix these products according to the manual provided on the internet. In the various websites you will get the full procedure of constructing the electric engine.

Generally these engines made at home require an amount which is less than 0. So you can see with such a less investment you can get so much. Homemade electric generator is the best option with the help of which you can get the best quality engines at a very affordable price. Now get over increasing electricity bills and get the best option made at home only.

Can I use an old vacuum cleaner electric motor for a homemade windmill generator?
It is worth it? How efficient could it be? I live in a windy place

  2. TechnoStuff says:

A vacuum cleaner motor will not produce electricity like a generator unless you were to do some modifications so you could excite it.

It would be better to use something that will directly work as a generator. A PMDC motor is a good bet (Permanent Magnet Direct Current motor) but most are pretty small.

A car alternator would be a simple solution if you are looking to charge a battery with it, the Delco alternators made in the 1970s-80s have a built in regulator, easy to connect. Not as efficient as it could be but quick, easy and relatively inexpensive.

I believe that dc motors have permanent magnets which will cause the electrons in the wires to move as they are passed by. A car alternator hooked up to a battery is 1 good way to make a small scale turbine and you can hook that up to an inverter that is designed to go in to a car to run things like video game systems so it can run 110v devices.

What would you need to do to a brushless DC motor to turn it into a generator?
I am new to learning about generators and dont know much about DC electricity. I am experimenting with building a windmill for household power. Would machining the shaft and placing magnets in it work? I am first building one with homemade coils and earth magnets, but somebody suggested using a dc motor housing and thought i would check into it. Thanks for any input.

    homemade windmill question?
i am thinking about try to make a homemade windmill. for a hs science competition, i made a small scale one that worked well, and we had to use the standard little DC motors as the generator and it worked well.
when i was talking w/ my tech teacher, he said that this would only work w/ dc motors, i mean the generating power part. is this true, b/c i have an old blender motor i was thinking of trying to turn into a windmill motor? if you have any more questions about the motor, i will try to answer them as best i can. i also have an old garage door motor. will either work?
    thanks

    Hi,

First of all,a brushless DC motor needs an alternative arrangement that could cause the reversal of input direct current for developing a constant torque in armature. This may be achieved with the help of any electronic inverter connected to the input terminals of motor as the brushes in a dc motor actually act as mechanical inverter.

Now,to run a dc motor as generator:

Rotate the shaft of the motor by coupling it through any prime mover(such as engine or any other generator) at rated speed

The field excitation to the motor circuit must be provided using any dc source. Now,the motor runs as a generator.

Importantly,an arrangement(either an electronic rectifier or brushes) that could reverse the direction of induced current in the armature, which is of alternating nature, must be provided at the output. This is required so as to obtain dc power at load.
