How can I build/buy a simple wireless remote to turn a small motor or light bulb on and off?
I have a very basic knowledge of electronics, and can build something if given the directions (probably) but I’m looking for a “wireless switch” that I can build or buy and attach between a battery and a small motor (like a vcr motor) or small light bulb, to turn it on and off with a remote. The ability to dim the bulb or slow the motor down, rather than on/off, would be nice, but not necessary. I don’t need micro controllers (hopefully), i don’t need to send “information,” just on, off, and possibly a “dimmer” function.

I would go to a car wrecker place and chat to the men there. Theree are a lot of small 12 volt Dc electric motors in car…windscreen wiper, door window opener, fan in heater/air con unit. Try to get one for no money….use your charm ….government research project. Get this home and open it up. You will see how complex it is inside. Then ask yourself the question do I have the skill to make one of these machines?

There may be a couple of ways to do it.
1. on/off: There are many wireless remotes you can get from security type companies that do this. Linear is one of them. You would have a pendant style “fob” that has 2-4 buttones on it. You would program the reciever to turn the unit on or off with one of the buttons.
2. dim feature. The same “fob” would be used to control a reciever potentiometer that would control the speed of the motor.
If you would like a basic schematic let me know. If you sell it or are using it for an invention, just remember me when you make the big bucks. lol
wood won’t work, the friction will be high.
for lowest friction, I recommend ball bearings or roller bearings with a steel shaft.
