Make the LED be set behind a higher resistor than the rest of the circuit. When the main is cut in any spot, the power will have nowhere else to go but into the LED, thus lighting it up.

Manny, you need to make a bio digester in which the effluent from the pit can be decomposed and methane gas liberated. The gas can be used for cooking or heating or even running a small spark ignition engine to make electricity. The waste heat from the engine can be used to warm the digester and make it work better and waste from the digester can be used as fertilizer on crops.
