How To Make Wind Generator - Tips To Consider When Building Your Own Wind Turbine

Author: Ricky Lim

Wind power is another alternative source of energy besides solar power. The attraction of wind power is because of the unlimited supply and cost free energy.

You can get any amounts of energy you want at literally zero price, furthermore energy generated from wind will not pollute the earth atmosphere or pollute the ozone layer.

Do you know you can make your own wind generator at home to take advantage of wind power. The best part is it doesn't cost much money either.

The Tricky Part

To tell the truth, the tricky part in making wind generator is to find a guide that can explain a simple step by step process that you can follow. All academic and other textbook are full of theories and hard to read, you don't need to know about electron reaction during inverting process when all you want to know is how to make a simple wind generator that good enough to supply electric energy you need.

Thankfully, there are several such guides online such as Michael Harvey Earth4energy.

Components For Wind Generator

If you buy ready made wind generator, it will cost you thousands of dollars, not to mention the installation fees. The hassle part of building a wind generator yourself is to find the best cheap supplier to buy different components of your wind generator with high quality.

You can find some at Ebay, or your local electronic stores such as Radioshack. If you are good enough hunting for bargain, you can get all the necessary components for less than 0.

A few additional things you should be aware if you want to use wind power is the wind supply at your area. If the area where you live has little to no wind, then building a wind generator is virtually useless.

This kind of device is best if you near in the countryside with large open spaces or live near the coast where there is constant coastal wind.

Also be aware with various wind patterns as this will determine the decision for blade size and shape you will use later on.

how to make wind generator at home?
I would like not to pay electricity other than that I produce some kind of electrical motors

  2. surya says:

simple. jst take a dynamo and a toy fan. take the wings of this fan and fix it into the shaft of dynamo. place the fan on the direction of blowing wind.

how to make a wind powered generator?
i wanted to make a wind powered generator for science fair. i was wondering about the part that generates the electricity if it was called a DC motor?

It is called a generator but is more or less the same thing. On a motor, electricity flows through a wire coil that is surrounded by magnets. The current causes a central shaft to turn. On a generator an power source turn the shaft to cause a current in the coils.

It should be relative easy to make a crude generator as long as you have resources.

I will let you figure out the wind part of the project. Good Luck.

Wind generator means something that generates wind, like a fan.

I think you mean a wind turbine?

Look on the internet, there are lots of kits you can buy. First calculate how much power you need.

What do you plan on doing when there is no wind? If you still want power, you will need a huge bank of batteries to supply power, as there can be entire days free from wind. And a much larger wind turbine. And a lot more money.

Does anyone have directions to make an easy wind generator?
There’s a breeze across our property that could help generate electricity and help us out, but we have limited funds and no knowledge of how to make one.

How do I make a homebuilt wind generator power ?
    Does anybody know?

I really want to make a homebuilt wind generator power but have no idea how. Im a complete noob when it comes to this stuff lol

homebuilt wind power generators can be built with just a few parts that you probably already have laying around your home.

If you want to power household items like TVs, washing machine etc then you will need an inverter. These are quite cheap though.

I got my instructions on homebuilt wind power generators from http://www.earth4energy.com and it made life HEAPS easier for me.

Yes it’s not a good investment. But if you just want to tinker with it, look in old issues of “Mother Earth News” magazine. There are lots of articles about people who have built them. Everything from using a car alternator, to sophisticated generators. The best ones are premade, and they’re not cheap, and the towers aren’t cheap.
Then there’s the batteries and charging regulators. then you usually convert it to 110 volts to use it, so you need an inverter for that.
    “Mother Earth News” is online:

There’s a “basement built wind generator” article there, and lots of others.
Do a search of the archives for “wind power”.
