  1. just asking says:

what is the reason for an induction motor to slow down during cold weather?
Im a new pressman, I run a pressmachine which prints newspapers. The machine is run by an induction motor with 15hp, 45amps, and 60hz. The machine will either start so slow or it will slow down in the middle of the run.
I got new grease. I want to try what steve h suggested about lubricating the bearings, but still I want to hear more answers with other suggestions to solve my problem.

  2. too buzy to talk about peolpe says:

How do I make a Linear Induction Motor?
I need to make a Linear Induction Motor (LIM) for a project, but I don’t know how to make a simple home made one that can be used to experiment. Thanks.

  3. steve h says:

Lubricate the bearings in the motor.
Old grease/oil residue gets really gummy when it gets colder.
I would bet that the bearings in this motor have probably never been lubricated.
It will have oil cups or grease fittings at both ends.
Fix it and be a hero at your new job!
Anything you do will only make it better.
    You can’t hurt anything.

How is a circle diagram of a three phase induction motor constructed?
How are the various parameters of the three phase induction motor determined from the circle diagram?

  6. Staying away from Yahoo! Answers says:

    Induction motor?
I am wondering, how can we run an induction motor as an “induction generator”…?

I just know that for an induction generator, the slip is greater than unity. But how can we PRACTICALLY run it?

  7. Keith R says:

Why would a 220 induction motor switch rotation from one use to the next?
I have a 220v 1hp induction motor that was running in the correct rotation the first 5 or 6 times it was started. Then the next time it was started it reversed the direction it was rotating and is continuing to run with the opposite rotation. This is used for a lift for a boat dock.

  8. Eleph says:

Best guess is that one leg of the supply dropped out!

  9. Don J says:

An induction motor, connected to and energized by the ac line, will become a generator by driving its shaft in the same direction to a speed greater than the synchronous speed (slip = 0). This requires that the induction motor be driven by another motor than can rotate at a speed slightly greater than the synchronous speed. As an example, a 2 pole induction motor, energized by a 60 Hz power source will deliver power to that source if it is driven to a speed greater than 3600 rpm.
