    How AC Generator starts electricity from static condition rotating magnetic fields are not present?
    Since rotating magnetic fields are necessary for generation of electricity how an AC generator starts to produce electricity? is there a battery or AC supply externally to produce magnetic fields?

    can stationary paper thin panels, near each other, that replicate the armature of a generator make electricity?
    Generator’s armature and dynamo make electricity by turning in the earth’s magnetic field. The earthh’s magnetic field feed itself through the panels like the wind in a wind mill. Something like that would be more dependable then solar panels, and less maintance.

    Okay, I know there is a generator /electro motor in there, but it’s not a permanent magnet motor, then if there is no existing magnetic field, and there is no battery on a generator, how does it make the coils energized? The rotor and stator are both windings, or, is there a slight small magnet in the rotor to give that first bit of current to make more current as the generator gets to full speed?

    For the synchronous generators in large power stations, the machine rotor contains a winding that is externally energized by DC excitation. This ‘field’ winding is the electromagnet that rotates in the presence of the stator phase windings to generate AC.

    On some machines, there is a small permanent magnet generator that powers the excitation circuit, through diodes and a control mechanism, which makes these generators capable of ‘black start’.

    For induction generators, like what is used in the large wind turbines, you’ve noted a big problem. They require a connection to the AC power system for their excitation. If the grid voltage dips too much while they are operating, they will trip offline, and make a small grid problem even worse.

    The answer is a). When a wire cuts through a magnetic field (technically, a loop of wire) current is generated in the loop.

    b. makes no sense. A generator can certainly produce 120V at 1Amp.

    c doesn’t really make sense either. You can stick two magnets together (which, by definition is an N and S pole coming together) and leave them there forever, and you won’t be generating any electricity (which is too bad, since otherwise you’d have a perpetual motion machine!)

    The magnetic field must be moving with respect to the generator coil. A simple check with a compass will show that the field is not moving, so the coil must be moving. This requires energy which must be supplied from somewhere. Also, the field is very weak so only a miniscule output will be produced, far less than the energy supplied to move the coil..

    You very astutely answered your own question. Generators self-excite with the residual magnetism in the rotor. In some cases, especially if the generator has been rebuilt, they may loose the residual magnetism and will fail to self-excite and generate. In this case, you must flash the field, which is accomplished by connecting a battery momentarily across the field coil to magnetize the field core.
