This Why We Need Alternative Energy Sources

Author: Bryan Wong

The need for alternative energy sources is getting urgent, hence the development of renewable energy is moving fast. Nationally and internationally various individuals and research companies are creating new and exciting energy systems. Some of these apparatus are great works and need improving for massive use. Politician's world-wide are drafting policies and are making agreements to make greater use of these energy sources.

The first problem is that the fossil fuels are depleting in a rapid rate and are harder to retrieve. The consequence is that we can be facing an energy crisis in the future is we are not careful today. The energy prices will sky rocket and not be available for many individuals or countries. To avoid this doom scenario we need to find alternatives and used them to their full potential. Luckily this is already happening.

The second problem is that the fossil fuels that are widely used today are harmful for the environment. In the early seventies and eighties there were people and even scientist who preach otherwise, but today the negative effects are showing. The earth is warming up and climates are changing. There are parts in the world were there be more rain and sunshine and others parts will be come dryer then they already are. Another negative effect is that the ozone layer is getting thinner which also leads to a warming up of the earth. These two effects compliment each other and make it even more crucial to make another step in a different direction. This step will lead us to the use of renewable energy.

Another problem lies in the development of small economies. Because the energy prices for crude oil are going through the roof, these countries suffer even more. Many of these countries need crude oil for their electricity and means of transportation. These high oil prices have their effect on almost everything. The monthly electricity costs for households increase among others like transport cost and prices for basic products. Hence, these high oil prices make it harder for these small countries to grow there economies.

The solution for the above problems can be resolved by renewable energy. Our beautiful planet gives us the opportunity to make proper us of sunlight, flowing water, strong winds, and hot springs and convert these into energy. These energy sources are abundant and free to use. We must be sure that we convert the energy the right way, without causing other problems that can again hurt our environment. Luckily the many efforts by individuals and companies show that this can be done.

France is a leader in modern energy thinking and they are going NUCLEAR.The US has the same opportunity -a prime site would be the Bethlehem property out-side of Buffalo NY.

It’s got to come from Nuclear energy. So called ‘Green’ renewable energies are useless because they don’t take into consideration basic facts and numbers.

Look at it this way: In order for the UK to meet it’s requirements for the % of energy production created by green energy (I think it’s 35% by 2020) as ratified by the EU, the Government would have to cover the UK in twice the number of wind turbines that are currently in the WORLD, let alone the UK. This means they would have to build 3 per day every day until 2020 to reach the target. And the current rate for building and installing a windmill? 1 per week. And the wind production at full speed and capacity would only be the same as 5 small coal-fired power stations.

So that means with natural fossil fuel production running out, we would have either harness methane production from livestock farms, or use nuclear energy. But those take 10 years to build (I don’t know why, but surely they shouldn’t take that long), so I do believe that we could suffer another winter of discontent.

Crops for renewable energy are generally a bad idea. They appeal to those who think there must be a way of solving our energy and climate change problems without interfering with business as usual. As such they appeal to our politicians who would otherwise have to announce the end of economic growth. Naturally politicians fear that they would lose votes conveying such a message and they latch on to any alternative.

Why are energy crops a bad idea? Because they push up the cost of food and they encourage further deforestation. Increased food costs impact more on the poor and lead to social unrest and war which impacts on everybody. Deforestation adds to global warming which will also cause economic and social upheaval.

The only real solution to the energy crisis and global warming is to adopt simpler, less wasteful lifestyles and to generate energy from sustainable sources such as wind, wave, tide, geothermal, solar and hydro sources. The good news is that we can make a start individually. We will find simpler, less wasteful lifestyles more fun than trying to keep up with what the neighbours spend and we will demonstrate to governments that there are votes in adopting more sustainable policies instead of jumping from one crisis to another.

    Best wishes

    renewable sources:
    solar
    wind
    tide
    wave
geothermal, while not renewable, is often classed in this area as it is inexhaustable.

Depends on the household and where it is located. Windy area, use wind power. Lots of sun, use solar power.

solar array would be on the roof. wind generator would be on a tower.
You will need a large array of batteries to supply power when the sun/wind is not available. Alternatively, sell power back to the electric utility company and use power from them during periods of no sun or wind.

if this is an isolated house with no access to the power grid, I’d have a diesel generator for backup.

I came across a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. yes there is a need for renewable resources because non-renewable resources wont last for ever more over they pollute the atmosphere and are expensive.
whereas the renewable ones are in-exaustable, non-polluting and free of cost

Crops as renewable energy…. need info about ethanol and biomass?
i really need some information about renewable energy but only biomass if you know anything that might help please let me know. the questions i need answered are 1) what crops are used in the US for renewable energy, 2) what are the pros and cons of using crops as energy 3) any other information on biofules

  7. krishna k says:

why do we need renewable energy? epecially solar cell?
Could you please give me data base the energy need for the world, and also for India in future? and informations about PV productions? especially CdTe solar cells?

  8. Shia says:

Is there need for Renewable Energy? Explain Briefly by arguing for or against. (properly structured 4 a test?

  9. Russel Dyllan says:

    Renewable Energy, need help?
How could renewable energy sources be used to meet a household’s needs?

    Consider the following issues:

What renewable sources of energy are available?

Which sources could be used to supply a household’s needs? How could each source be used?

Where would the home have to be located to use each source?

What equipment would be needed? Where would this equipment be located?

What backup systems should be included?

For all you smart people out there, please answer all of these questions!

  10. CAM says:

Given UK’s desperate need for renewable energy, isn’t it time we crushed the NIMBY brigade?
The windfarm factory on the Isle of Wight has closed (500 jobs lost) because NIMBY objectors made the company’s UK operations unprofitable. The Severn Barrage project is continually delayed by skilled and selfish stalling of planning processes. It’s the same all over Britain; those objectors want the benefits of low-cost energy and to ride their hobby-horses as well.
Our oil and gas is running out; Thatcher destroyed our coal mines. Where DO those NIMBY people think our energy will come from?
