Neodymium magnets require low working temperature for heat applications. If the temperature is set to high degree, they can easily catch fire. Neodymium inspired new applications in areas where magnets were not used.

    What is the minimum distance to safely have a neodymium magnet away from electronics? The neodymium magnet is 2” x 2” x 1” and is grade N42.

    It won’t have any effect on any electronics unless they involve something magnetic, like a hard disk, or an electron beam, like a CRT. In the HD case, a few inches should be enough. For a CRT, you may need a foot or so.

    Why does a neodymium magnet vibrate when passed through a detector that looks like the things at stores?
    I have gotten a neodymium magnet from a kid in my high school and when I passed through the detector (I think it is a medal detector.) it started to vibrate in my hand. I was wondering what causes this. I think it is from magnets or whatever is in the devises that were on either side of me but I’m not sure.

    How many times stronger is the neodymium than the ferrite? I know there’s different qualities of each but Im asking on average, for the same dimension magnet.

    These detection systems generate a weak magnetic field which induces an alternating magnetic field in security tags–detecting a specific change in field if present. A neodymium magnet has a very strong field and is likely to give a vigorous response as it attempts to aline poles which are alternating polarity. Some systems use radio waves to induce a field in the security tag and would not likely cause any response in a magnet.

    magnets will most loose the magnetization from heat but very high heat if you dont break it and heat you will have the same strength magnet when you remove it but its going to be hard to do so

    It depends on the composition. Ferrites can have a stronger field than neodymium magnets.

    Can I use round neodymium magnet with a hole in the middle to make a DC Motors?
    I’m making a DC motor for my science fair project and I did everything I am supposed to to make it work but my motor still does not work. Everything seems fine like Im using magnet wire, a neodymium magnet, paper clips that conduct electricity, alligator clips and a D cell battery but yet it still does not work. I was just wondering if it had something to do with the hole in the middle of the neodymium magnet?

    The hole will not affect the operation.
    Carefully rotate your motor, and ensure the battery power disconnects before the rotor reaches magnet centre.
    Such a simple motor will probably need a push to make it run.
