Several Safety Tips For Using A Portable Power Generator

Author: lisa lucero

Whether you have chosen a gas powered generator, electrical power generator or any other type, you need to make sure that you are aware of all the safety precautions. Using a portable power generator can be hazardous if you do not know what you are doing and are not using caution and common sense. There are a few tips in particular that are going to help make sure that you do not get electrocuted.

Stay Safe

To avoid electrocution while using a portable power generator, make sure that you never plug the generator into a wall outlet, and you always need to read the instruction manual before using. Even if you have used another type of portable power generator before, if this is a different make or model you are still going to have to read the instructions because there are probably going to be at least a few differences that you will have to be aware of.

Another important safety tip for using a portable power generator is to make sure that you never store gasoline in the house. Whether this is gas for your generator or for anything else it does not matter, the point is that you should never store gas in the house to begin with. At least if you have a shed or other housing unit somewhere on your property, this is going to be safer than storing it in your home.

Remember that if you are going to have to connect the generator to your house wiring, you don't want to take on the job yourself. Unless you are a qualified electrician or otherwise have experience in this area, this is something that you are really not going to want to mess around with. Have a qualified electrician, someone who knows what they are doing, take care of this for you so that you know the job is getting done right.

As long as you have your portable power generator properly connected and you keep all of these safety tips in mind when you are using it, then you should be fine and should not have any problems. Just be smart and be safe and you should not have any troubles with your generator. Also make sure that you get a warranty on your generator when you purchase it, especially if you are getting a higher end model because then if something does go wrong with it, it will probably fall under warranty and you will be able to save yourself money.

DoNot put a muffler on it.
You are correct it will put more of a load on the Gen-
The best thing to do is see if there is a different muffler from the Man- to make it more quiet.
Also There is 1 thing you can do.
If you can get a new muffler to extend from the one on the gen you can do this but only if the new muffler has No Restriction 100 free flow.
Also you do not want to build a box around it either. You can do this only if there are vents to let the new air in and bad air out. This will bring down the sound a bit. But be carefull Most units are air cooled and you dont want to restrict it.

I fire up my old portable gas powered generator and it starts up, but then within several seconds it will wind down until it turns off. If i hold the start button it stays on. Any help regarding what is wrong, and how to troubleshoot this would be appreciated. Thanks!

What kind of portable power generator would be useful to power a band?
What would be the cheapest best choice to feed electricity to a 120w guit amp, a 100w bass amp and a 200w mixer???

Cheapest and best are not the same. You could pick up a used Chinese built 1000 watt generator powered by a 2-stroke engine for less than $100. Check Northern Tools and their ETQ lineup. This could be your cheap option. Best could be a 1000 watt Honda inverter style generator.

By far the Honda is the best. Quiet and easy start. I have 3 Honda EU2000i’s in my business. Honda rocks.

Guess I should add… I have never used a Subaru. Coleman Powermate is just ok.

Recommendations for a Portable Power Generator for football game tailgate parties?
I’m looking for a portable power generator to run a TV and Direct TV at our tailgates. I’ve researched the Honda EU1000i, Coleman Powermate 1800, and Subaru 1000w generators. I think the Honda is the best but also much more money than I want to spend. I would like a generator that will not have to be filled constantly, not too loud, and will last a while. My budget is $300-$400. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the Coleman a good piece of equipment? How loud is it? Thanks
