Unprecedented amount of renewable energy investments were experienced by most of the countries across the world, in 2010. In 2009 around 186.5 billion USD was rendered for renewable energy sector, but in 2010 more than 243 billion US dollars have been allocated as energy investments. Small scale renewable energy generation projects experienced a twofold increase, that was around 59.6 billion US dollars and countries like China, Italy, Czech Republic, Germany, United States, United Kingdom and so on, are executing their best in the renewable energy arena. China has surpassed the clean energy investments sphere with more than 51.1 billion USD in 2010, with a 30 percent raise when compared to the energy investments furnished in 2009. Europe exhibited more interest and investments towards the development of offshore wind energy projects and rooftop solar power panels. Recently the European Renewable Energy Association released their research reports which demonstrated that, the Europe would outstrip the 2020 renewable energy targets. The president of Turkey Abdullah Gul recently asserted that, the country is at the great zeal about the energy investments in Yemen. The visit would fortify the economic relations as well as develop the cultural relations between these two countries.
Many Indian companies are showing greater interest towards the renewable energy investments and recently around Rs 15 lakh crore was furnished in Gujarat, India on the day one of the conclave demoing of the state. The chief secretary for mining and industries Gujarat M.Sahu recently mentioned that, the government of Gujarat has penned roughly 2,766 commercial understanding with the business organizations and more than Rs 15 lakh crore has been invested for these ventures. The Reliance group owned by Indian business czar Anil Ambani and the Adani Group have invested more than Rs 50,000 crore and Rs 80,000 crore, respectively. Power sector exclusively has attracted nearly Rs 3, 05, 204 crore.

The propagation of Gore’s GW is what causes the price of oil to go up ,and it is n nothing but ignorance. The plants recycle the CO2 into oxygen ,but the plants keep the C in its leaves. The leaves will break down into oil & gas.Plants created our present supply of fossil fuels and they will continue.

Instead of suspending the gas tax for the summer, what if the FEDs give a tax break for renewable energy?
And take the fed gas tax and put the entire amount toward research for alternative fuels sources. That way there would be funding for research for renewable energy, and rebates for folks who actually save the environment and use less gas. Currently we have no incentive to save gas, other than the pocket book, and as soon as the price of gas goes below $3 everyone will be buying Hummers again.
When demand goes down, so will the price….
Why havent taxis been forced to change to hybrid vehicles/ renewable energy/ greenhouse gas friendly fuels?
With all the concern over climate change, greenhouse gas emmisions and rising petrol costs, taxi companies are not using environmentally friendly vehicles.
Shouldnt the government be regulating the taxi industry and forcing a change to “greener” alternatives.
I realise that many of the contributors to this site are from the USA. I was asking about the Australian Taxi industry.
Taxis may initially cost more as the change is made, but, some of that cost would be offset by the fact that these vehicles are more fuel efficient than the big 6 cylinder cars that are currently used and the rising costs of petroleum products.
The Taxi industry in Australia is already regulated, through licensing and fixed metered pricing.
The change to eco friendly vehicles in Australia for taxis would have a roll on effect to domestic vehicles due to the size of the Australian market, encouraging the automotive manufacturers to supply affordable eco friendly vehicles to the Australian public.
In my city 80% of taxis are Prius hybrids. The temperature is routingly below -20 deg. C this time of year and it doesn’t seem to bother them. The taxi companies love them because of the savings in fuel and there is no increase in fares to the customer.
This time I don’t think we need to legislate the change as taxi companies are going to realize it’ll earn them more money to go green.

Demand for gas is down in the U.S.A. by 17% compared to the same time last year.
In 2006 I carried a petition for just 3 cents of every dollar of the oil producers profit to go to “alternative energy development” and it was defeated by the Oil Producers advertising campaign warning that the cost of gas would jump dramatically if it passed. Well-I knew that it was going to anyways. Without funds to produce alternative energy the Oil Producers are safe to gouge us to their hearts content.
Our tax dollars are in part going to “subsidize” those poor Oil Producers still regardless of their record breaking profits. That money could be better used towards alternative energy. But then Bush doesn’t want to hurt his rich supporters.
