The largest source of renewable energy is hydropower. This renewable source of energy provides ten percent of the nation's electricity. Using hydropower does not release pollution. However, it can possibly harm fish and wildlife, displace people, and alter the quality of water. Therefore, better technology is trying to reduce the loss of aquatic life. This technology is highly expensive, though, and takes a long time to build.

Another source of energy is wind energy. Wind power is generated by erecting a large tower equipped with propellers that spin when the wind pushes the blades, which are connected to an electric generator. The wind rotates blades around a hub, which is connected to the main shaft. The main shaft spins a generator. The size of the turbines is determined by how much energy is needed. Small wind turbines are usually used for homes, farms, and ranches. Wind energy is also used to grind grain and pump water. The disadvantages of using wind energy, on the other hand, are as follows: This technology may be very expensive, the machinery is known to be noisy, birds have been killed by running into the turbines, and the wind might not be present at certain time throughout the year.

Solar energy is another type of renewable energy source. Photovoltaics or PV cells produce electricity from sunlight. Again, the major problem here is that many people cannot afford solar panels. In fact, this power resource costs more than other energy sources. Also, it tends to work effectively only when the sun is shining.

It is better to use other types of renewable energy sources. But then again, we still have to use some type of fossil fuels. We can, however, make the best choice by using natural gas for water heating and power appliance. Not only does it cost a lot less, but it is also better for the environment in which we live.

we now have tax incentives in british columbia

is wood pellet heating practical in the city?
hi i am going to be using renewable energy in a home located in the city. i want to not use natural gas so my plan is to have a log burning boiler and a wood pellet boiler for automated use when i am unable to manage the wood fired boiler. i have a gas line to my home. there is a wood pellet company and they deliver high grade pellets for under a thousand for 3 tons after shipping. they can also vacuum the pellets from a truck. so let me know if you think wood pellets are practical or not for city living.

Are we ever going to see incentives, in Canada, for applications of residental renewable energy usage?
A push towards a cleaner environment is forcing the government to implement the usage of renewable energy technology. So far the monetary incentives are present for mass production. If residential incentive was available, I would retrofit my home with solar/wind power and tie into the grid.

Renewable energy is energy that can be used over and over again without the depletion of the source. B, C, and D all describe the burning of fossil fuels. Fossil fuels as an energy source takes many, many years to replenish, so they cannot be used over and over again without depletion; therefore fossil fuels are not renewable energy sources. Solar cells use the sun light for power, and since sun light will keep coming to Earth for a couple more millions of years, it is a renewable energy source. The answer is A.

Pellet burners are far more practical in rural areas for 1 simple reason- there is not natural gas service in remote areas. Fuel oil or propane heat is double the cost of natural gas. If you have natural gas service, you are not cutting costs nearly as much as rural dwellers do.

The Texas utility commission just approved another 5 bill. dollars for wind powered energy?
this is on top of already being the #1 producers of wind power in the country. the new bill will supply another 4 million peoples homes with renewable energy. Between this, natural gas, and American oil drilling why is it so hard to get off foriegn dependency. Why is this not being done in every state.
They wind energy can be harnessed and store, but all states have some kind of resource, naturalgas for example, California can and does produce wind energy, but doesn’t to the capasity they should
the new wind(Mills) use turbines instead of generators, where the commpressed air is sent underground and stored for later
in Texas they are as we speak drilling for natural gas in our neighborhoods, and paying us to lease our mineral rights, you can’t,see, hear, or smell it, so it’s not an imposition
actually wind farms are quite a spectacular sight
I don’t know why people are thumbs uping LLD he is dead wrong, we are not talking about the old wind mills from the old west, these are very high tech and huge
wind turbines are about 350-400 ft. tall where the wind is blowing much faster than near the ground
I also mentioned drilling oil, and gas, I know Texas can get around the law’s easier, but these are stupid law’s that are only hurting us

How do places with wind and solar energy sustain their power?
Some places rely on solar and wind energy right? To power their homes and such. How do they use energy in the night or when there is no wind? Do they have something that stores the energy like a big battery or something?

I have to “make” a green city and it will use renewable energy source including solar and wind energy. How would I make the wind and solar energy sustainable and not have shortages of power?

  8. Cortney C says:

Which of the following describes the use of a renewable energy source?
    A. using solar cells to heat water for use in homes
    B. gasoline used in the engines of automobiles
    C. burning coal to operate the machinery in a factory
    D. burning natural gas to power city buses

  9. Doloris Clendenen says:

Small places, like a remote house or an island, might have batteries. A large place, like a city, would be connected to a “Grid”, or electrical energy transmission system. If the wind stopped blowing, deep in the night, they would pull energy off the grid, from a nuclear plant, or coal-burning generation station, or hydroelectric project many miles away. A town on an island might have a large diesel generator.

I came accross a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. Because Texas is the Best….State…Ever!

And it’s so hard to get off foreign oil because it gives Government another excuse to try and control us, getting us all worried about an “energy crisis”
    EDIT
I remember when they tried to get wind power going in Mass., but ol’ Ted “Partial Birth” Kennedy stopped it, because the facilities would be too close to his gargantuan estate, and he couldn’t have that.
