How To Start A Home Based Solar Energy Business
Author: Daniel Stouffer
A home based business is essentially a small business that is operated out of your personal residence. It is governed by local and federal regulations and taxed accordingly.
There are several things to consider when thinking about starting a home based business. The first being whether or not you are motivated enough to work without being told what to do or how to do it. A successful home based business entrepreneur is a self starter who enjoys personal success. They really thrive on the unknown and are not afraid to take a gamble on their own ideas.
The good news for all of the clean-tech entrepreneurs is the added boost that the U.S. Government is placing in the ACESA stimulus legislation. The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 has a few main parts or provisions; all of which lead many people who wish to start a small business straight in the direction of solar energy.
1. A clean energy section that promotes renewable sources of energy; such as home solar energy and businesses powered by solar are set to expand rapidly and on a big scale.
2. An energy efficiency section that increases energy efficiency across all sectors of the economy, including buildings, appliances, transportation, and industry.
3. A global warming provision that places restrictions on the carbon equivalent emissions and other environmentally damaging pollutants.
4. A transitional program that protects U.S. job seekers, consumers, businesses in these tough economical times with training, career adjustment, and transitioning support.
5. A very large program that promotes green jobs during the transition to a clean solar energy economy.
Having a home based solar energy business is work. Even with large incentives and the backing of the government, industry, and most citizens, you must still do the work in order to enjoy success. If you are the type who is self directed and motivated then the next consideration is what will you do? Consider what you are passionate about. What gets you excited enough to want to share it with others?
Use this information to create an ideal home based solar energy business.
Do some Internet searches or talk to other small business owners related to home based work that they made into a successful business and see if you might want to do the same. A clean-energy entrepreneur can create a operational statement for the way and type of solar energy business the wish to operate. This will be the bases for the services they can offer. Ask yourself the question "what will set my home based solar energy business apart from others?" Then write out a small business plan.
If you know that starting a home based solar energy business is right for you, then your next step is educating yourself about the requirements that govern home based businesses locally within your state, county and also with the US government and IRS. Once you have done this bit of homework you will have to decide if you are financially able to invest in yourself or if you will need to be part of a larger system. The landscape is change in a great way towards renewable, solar energy. This provides unparalleled opportunity for businesses as it relates to the U.S. Government's interest in fast-tracking our transition to a clean energy environment.
United States Green Jobs: Worker Transition to Solar Energy Industry
The latest draft legislation related to an economic stimulus, a plan to address climate change, and a strategy to move into a renewable energy environment includes several provisions to promote solar energy jobs. One section authorizes the Secretary of Education to award grants to universities and colleges to develop curriculum and training programs that prepare students for careers in renewable solar energy, energy efficiency, and other forms of climate change mitigation. Under another section, the Secretary of Labor is authorized to carry out such training programs.
There are good opportunities out there that do not require an upfront investment. Emerging technology in renewable energy is creating what are called green collar jobs. Solar energy is now a viable business opportunity for the home based business owner. The outlook for renewable energy in 2009-2010 is very bright.
In fact renewable energy is in the forefront of business opportunities right now. For those who are passionate about saving money, going green and creating a home based business, a solar energy business is a golden opportunity.
The solar energy market is a largely untapped sector of the business and renewable energy industry. Home based business owner's need this type of information and the support the U.S. Government is showing to really kick start exciting new career options for many U.S. citizens.
It is the win-win business of 2009 because everyone benefits from a solar energy business.

Why has no one recognised the business opportunities that could be gained by using and selling solar power?
Surely there must be some eco-friendly investor who could invest in solar power in SA? In Germany there are a few churches that have panels on their roofs, and sell the surplus energy to finance themselves, and farmers and private homeowners do it too.

Where are the “Richard Bransons” of the world? Are they afraid of God´s power/energy ??
I wish all South Africans a powerFULL weekend!
Have I solved our energy problems with a simple idea?
Could there be new business opportunities for service stations that would exchange run down batteries for fully charged batteries in electric cars. —-Could these batteries be charged by solar panels mounted on canopies?
What problems do you see with this idea?
Drivers would pay a recharge fee, and an attendant would exchange quick-change batteries.
CRASH:—I’ve read that new technologies are being developed to bring down both the weight and cost of future batteries.
Naturally modifications would need to be made to existing designs, but our economy could use new industries, and investors are now serious about investing in solar improvements, The cost is rapidly coming down with new technologies and increased production of solar panels.
I’m sure there are greater minds than mine working on better ideas; but I think the answer will most likely be found by modifying our present system in baby steps.
CHRISFOR:—Are you aware that most service stations, tire stores, mechanic shops, and muffler shops have hoists, and they can lift your car and change your oil and filter in a few minutes for less than ten bucks?
Scientist have worked out new solar panels that can be coated in the manor you would paint your house.
Some new ideas involve nano-technology, and even micro-organisms.
Would the world collapse, if we had to modify the few electric cars that we have so far developed?
MIDIhea:—All the recharging would not have to be done on location.—Just as fuel trucks deliver gas from refineries, charged batteries could be delivered to exchange locations.
Vacant refineries would be excellent places to set up solar recharging stations.
The use of mirrors and magnification lenses would improve efficiency.
Those oil tankers and trucks would not need to be scrapped when oil runs out.
Batteries could be charged in sunny locations near the equator on solar-charging platforms, and shipped back and forth much the same way we now ship oil. Even wind, and wave power could be employed for recharging batteries. If recharged batteries are readily available, they may not need to be so large, or take so long to recharge.
The people who built the Panama canal will throw this thing together like making Hobo Stew.
Somebody stop me; I’m becoming a mad scientist, who knows nothing about science.
2n222:—I’m guessing that if charged batteries are readily available in many locations, they may not need to be quite so powerful, so heavy, or so expensive.
In the past, we have never had solar-powered chargers.
If we get the energy for free, and charge only for the labor, it should not cost the driver any more than he pays now, and the pollution is gone.
We have already come a long way from the 70s solar tech, and we don’t have the limitations we had then, nor the dire need for alternative sources of energy.
On a good day,Americans can move the world
JIM D:—Good point, but since we are rapidly running out of oil, perhaps those facilities can be purchased at reasonable prices.
However, whether we like it or not, the oil companies are already investing in other forms of energy, and they may make it easy to change the system.

It may be wise to keep them busting rocks in Leavenworth while we negotiate some prices for land and equipment.
I’m now making it official, you will be our new liaison officer to deal with the oil companies.
Isn’t it great to be around young people who are kind enough to allow a couple of old fa rts to delude themselves into thinking they just solved some gigantic problem for humanity?
IEEE XPLORE has already tested the feasibility of charging a battery pack using a solar charger, and concluded that it is already feasible.
What if the Automotive Factories Became New Energy Factories? ?
Here’s a little question for everyone trying decide if the auto makers need a bailout. The way I see it America has a real opportunity here. Energy independence equals not only prosperity but national security. Capitalism dictates that failing business are allowed to fail, but people are worried that too many jobs will be lost if the auto makers go belly up and close factories nation wide. Well what if we let the auto makers go out of business, I mean it’s their own fault they’re in this mess, spending money on lobbyist to get politicians to drag their feet on energy regulations instead of spending it on R.N.D for more fuel effective cars and trucks that people would actually buy was not the best business plan. But instead of closing the factories putting a very large number of Americans out of work…what if the government offered incentives to new energy companies to buy the existing auto factories and convert them into turbine factories? I mean some new equipment would be needed, and some new training could be needed too but by and large manufacturing is manufacturing. Instead of cars and trucks the same factories and the same work force in the same towns could be putting out the solar panels and wind turbines needed to push us into the foreground of the coming energy revolution. What do you think???
Is the notion of alternative energy being economically viable wishing thinking?
Skeptics have always maintained that if alternative energy was viable in a free market economy, they would already be in use. Proponents of global warming have always criticized skeptics as being stupid, uniformed and uneducated for maintaining this position and that alternative energy was indeed viable.
It turns out shell oil has backed out of the alternative energy investments saying it is economically a poor investment.
“Shell will no longer invest in renewable technologies such as wind, solar and hydro power because they are not economic, the Anglo-Dutch oil company said today… The company said that many alternative technologies did not offer attractive investment opportunities. Linda Cook, Shell’s executive director of gas and power, said: “If there aren’t investment opportunities which compete with other projects we won’t put money into it. We are businessmen and women. If there were renewables [which made money] we would put money into it.”

i am doing a project option on global warming is this good?
Global warming is probably the greatest threat we face in the twenty-first century. To stop this crisis we need to act now. We need to make a global connection to help the environment and the economy. We need to do is, to support the developing countries. With poor technology that the developing countries produce, we need get rid of them and give them new technology. By doing this, this will help the environment. We must recognize that to have a healthy home, we need to have a strong economy. Which means, to help the environment, we need to keep our economy stable. We must also support China, by giving them new technology, such as factories that do not pollute as much. By trading with China, even though we already do, giving them supplies they need to have a heather environment, we will be getting money that will be supporting our economy.
It seems that when voting, we always vote on politicians that say that they will help the environment, but it is never so. We must vote on politicians who will take action. We will also vote on things that they should be doing to help the environment and the economy, such as; use of renewable energy sources like wind and solar, promoting fuel efficient cars and energy efficiency around the world. We will be supporting international treaties to address the problems globally. By doing this it will help make things easer later in life. This will create new jobs and business opportunities across the countries.
Good point
Since we are in Africa and there is lots of sunlight.
The reason why it had not taken off was because our electricity is the cheapest in the world and solar panels are very expensive here in SA.
But
Since our cheap electricity is not reliable it maybe worth while going that route now.
Alternative energy is available now, however it’s the believers that are stopping this technology from being put into place.
Nuclear Power can provide the US with almost all our power needs. However environmentalists are scared about transporting waste, even though the waste is very small and transported every day.
Another excuse is the cost which is only higher because environmnetalists sue Nuclear power plants to prevent them from operating causing prices to rise. Truthfully, they are just scared of modern technology they don’t understand.
By switching to nuclear, we could reduce the green house gas output of the US by 50%.
New batteries, standardized, receptor panels in cars, all alike.
A car pulls in to an exchange station, out comes the standardized used battery and in goes the charged ones for a small fee.
I object to oil companies having anything to do with the process, they are having their way with us we don’t to reward them with being involved in any way with technology they have nothing to do with.
I do favor Leavenworth for oil company executives and the politicians they own, after a fair trial, of course.
The young male can do without his gas guzzling “performance car” and go to the library, maybe mankind might benefit from this forced change in human behavior.
This is the type of action that needs to happen, but whether or not it does will remain to be seen. The govt should never have gotten involved with any type of bailouts. No one bailed out the companies that had failed in 2001. If the company’s were criminal or just ignorant in their finances, then they should fail. People would lose jobs, but new and probably smarter companies would have came up in their place. This will not happen now. The world has reached a point where there are too many people and not enough resources. Just the way it is. Change can happen, but it will take dramatic cooperation among all.
The warming of the planet is not on a global scale. I would discuss calling it what it is, climate change. The biggest threat to the environment movement in the past is the lack of action by politicians, but this is based on the lack of importance placed on the issue by the people. In order for real change to occur, the majority of the country needs to put a priority on climate change, and then this will push the politicians to action. We can do this for voting for sure, but there has to be more awareness and discussion on the topic.
