portable electric power sources?
I am planning to do a walking tour of a historic area that does not have any electricity. I will need to use my laptop to present sound clips, etc. Instead of buying a bunch of extra batteries for the laptop, I wondered if there is any kind of portable electrical source that could be carried over the shoulder and would make no noise when in use. Any ideas?

Videographers use battery belts. Definitely the way to go. Best case, a short wire with a connector to plug into your charger socket on your laptop can run it. Worst case, use an automotive laptop power supply to run it.

If you think about it, maybe lugging around a laptop is not the optimal way. You might want to pre-record your sound clips and stuff and just play it back on an iPod with speakers or something else that is smaller and lighter.

You ask for too much detail in one question. No one has time to write a whole paper in one shot for you. Break it onto many smaller questions.
It seems to me that you want a 240 v electric motor with a PTO coupling.
The issues you need to discuss are:
1. What is the mechanical power demand of the driven device? (horsepower or mechanical KW)
2. What electrical motor horsepower do you need to make sure you have sufficient motor horsepower?
3. How are you going to protect the motor in the event of a jam in the PTO driven device? Usually shear pins are used for this, but make sure they are properly sized.
4. How are you going to safely prevent the rotating shaft from coming into contact w personnel, animals, clothing, and other objects as this could be a disaster?
Once you have addressed these technical issues, then you would start to understand the issues associated with the manufactur of such a device.
I suspect for the reasons given, few would offer such for sale but you may well be able to fabricate one yourself if you address the techical details.
