Free Wind Generator Plans - ( 2 Vital Things That You Must Take Into Consideration)

Author: Jake Siemens

Well, it seems to me that your looking at building a wind mill is that right? And on top of that your looking for free plans?

Listen, I am with you on this. I am all about finding ways to cut down my energy bill with the rising costs of almost everything now a days. (My Electricity has went up a month since 2 years ago!)

So is finding some free wind mill plans the answer to your high energy costs? Can you actually find decent free plans online? Let me give you 2 things that you need to consider if you are looking for free wind generator plans.

1. Are You Patient Enough?

2. Do You Know What You Are Doing?

First of all are you patient enough to sift through this online maze of information to actually find some decent plans? I'm not saying the information is not available for free but it will take quite a bit of searching to find some good solid Step by Step DIY plans online.

Secondly, are you pretty handy with tools or do you need someone to show you every step of the way what to do. Even if you are a handy man you will still need a thorough explanation on where to set up your windmill, how long the blades should be etc.

My Suggestion: Shell out a few dollars and find yourself a good step by step tutorial on how to build your own wind mill with a video guide to keep you from wasting a lot of time.

Plans to build a wind generator?
I am looking to find free plans to build a wind generator to charge up my 12 volt batteries at camp..any suggestions ?

I don,t have any plans on paper but, they sell windmills as decorations on landscapes. Look them over and see if they have a shaft with two pillow blocks so you can attach a pully. Then go to an auto junkyard and get an old 12 volt generator. Put a pulley on both the windmill shaft and the generator, ( which of course will already have a pulley on it), then an appropriate belt to connect them both. If you have the knowledge, you can wire in a voltage regulator.

To protect the system from over speeding in excessively high winds, a centrifical throwout clutch could be attached to the end of the windmill shaft.

Hope this helps, and good luck.

Are there plans available for easy to build wind generator?
I live on the Oregon Coast and have PLENTY of wind. I want to utilize this wind to suplement electricity to my home. Are there affordable kits available or easy to build and understand plans?

Get your hands on a good sized fan blade (about 3′ dia) and an alternator from the car junkyard. Assemble the blade & alternator together with a tail so it will point into the wind.Mount the assembly on a bearing. You will then be generating 12vdc

    Build A Wind Generator?
Can I really build a wind generator? Does anyone know where to find wind generator plans or has anyone out there learned how to build a wind generator and can show me how. The price of new wind generators is very expensive, thought we could build our own…

  7. upnorth555 says:

Sure you can build a wind generator Sandy. Our family has built 3 wind generators now and learning how to build a wind generator is not really that difficult.
First you need to know if it is worth it? Do you have a windy location that has a good site for wind? You will need to get your wind generator up 15 feet above the nearest obstruction within 300 feet.
It takes about a week of work to build one so be prepared for some work, The blades take the longest but we have found a resource that uses PVC for the blades that is easier. And you can use a simple DC motor for the generator. The plans are pretty easy to follow too.
