Windmill Energy - The Benefits Of Using Wind Energy

One of the most utilised and efficient forms of energy, is windmill energy. With the use of wind turbines and windmills, wind power is converted into energy. The wind turbine is used in generating electricity and the windmill is utilised on wind farms. Wind energy produced increases with the number of sails that are on it. The number of sails should be even for the windmill to function. Thus if one fails on a four sail another has to be removed to make them two.

 Benefits of utilising windmill energy

  1. Increasing the number of sails increases the energy output
  2. There is no air or water pollution involved
  3. Windmills do not take up a lot of space in their establishments therefore farming and ranching space is not compromised
  4.  The energy from a single windmill can generate a high amount of energy
  5. Wind energy is renewable and clean unlike the fossil fuels.
  6. It is obtainable in areas were electric lines cannot be installed
  7. There is little expense run in repairing and installing windmills as compared to electric pumps
  8. The amount of energy generated from the windmill is dependent upon; wind speed, wind speed increases with higher altitude. Windmills are structured to be high and attempt  to create as much energy as possible
  9. Installing the windmill for energy takes a short time and energy is soon generated.

Windmill energy has resolved energy problems in a number of areas and made some land activities possible and has proven to be an adequate alternative source of energy.

    A turbind spins in a flat trajectory parallel to the land and generates electricity. A windmill spins vertically and does not develop a rapid speed, but is used to primarily grind grain.

    Hey Medic, Kim is basically right. Years ago, all wind powered devices were called windmills. They used the power of the wind to mill something, such as grain, wood, or pump water perhaps. The term Wind Turbine is fairly recent, and refers to a wind powered device that turns the wind energy into some other kind of energy that can be used for a variety of things. A wind turbine could produce electricity that could then be used to grind wheat in a mill with the use of an electric motor, but it would still be called a turbine because it does not mill anything directly.

    If you want to get more into this, there are two websites you can check out and compare the differences in their nomenclature and descriptions. The American Wind Energy Association is a non profit group that does research and education on wind turbine technology. The website Windmill world is a good source of historical data on windmills. The only real similarity between them is they are both wind powered. I will list the sites below. Take care, Rudydoo

    For a small 12volt system, your best bet is any of the major marine equipemtn suppliers like west marine, boatUS or defender. 2KV is not a power requirements, but a voltage specification. I think you mean 2KW or 2 kilowatts… For a 2KW reliable output, you need maybe a 20KW peak system ….. the wind doesn’t blow most of the time. That’s a pretty big wind system for a homeowner -you’re talking about large diameter systems, maybe 20′ diameter and a very substantial mounting, etc. Figure about $150,000. for a realistic system. There will also be substantial hassles getting zoning approval and a building permit for a large system. Forget about a do-it-yourself setup using cheap automotive parts and home made propellers.. we’re talking concrete footings and substantial construction expenses. Unless you live in Cape Hataras, the likelihood is that the system will never pay for itself, as large wind generators need substantial, regular maintenance. Things like bearings and control electronics have finite lifetimes and cannot be skimped on. For realistic power generation, photovoltaic panels make more sense, and only with a substantial government subsidy. For off-the-grid power generation, nothing beats a water-cooled diesel generator for reliability and cost per kilowatt…. even at $4 a gallon diesel.
